What to Do While You Tan

Tanning and Boredom

One of the most popular activities during the summer is laying out to tan. As long as you tan safely, it can give you a beautiful summer glow and a sun kissed gloss to your skin. But, let’s be honest, sometimes tanning can be incredibly boring. It’s hot, it’s sweaty, and there’s nothing to do if you’re on your own. In actuality, there are tons of things that you could do while you tan to make your time more enjoyable. And, maybe take your mind off the heat! Below are some ideas of what to do while you tan!

Read While You Tan

A great activity to do while you tan is to read. Whether it’s a book, magazine, or newspaper, reading can help pass the time. Using electronics outside can be really difficult with the sun shining down on the screen. Traditional printed books don’t pose that problem. You can use them easily out in the sun and go on an adventure – maybe somewhere cold to keep you cool in the summer heat! Over my vacation, I finished an entire book! Aloha, Betrayed was an excellent and easy beachy read!

Listen to a Podcast

Another activity for tanning is to listen to a podcast. There are hundreds and hundreds of podcasts about all kinds of topics. You could surely find one that interests you. Remember to keep your phone or listening device under a towel or an umbrella to keep it from overheating. If you do that, you can enjoy listening to something without having to squint to see a screen. Additionally, podcasts give you a chance to learn something new or hear about something you’ve always wanted to know. There are also comedy podcasts, dramatic readings, audiobooks, and many more options.

Do Something Creative While You Tan

If you are someone creative, exercise your talents while you’re tanning. While some media are definitely easier to work with outside than others, art or writing can give you something to do while you tan. Scribble in your sketchbook, take out the colored pencils and fill in a coloring book, or get a notepad and just make some notes. In addition to writing or drawing, you could even work on a personal plan or get some work done without being stuck inside.

Call a Family Member or a Friend

Another thing you could do while tanning is to make a phone call. If you have a friend or a family member that you haven’t talked to in a while, give them a call. Maybe there’s a grandmother that you’ve been meaning to get in touch with. Or an old friend whose Facebook post reminded you of a hilarious inside joke. Tanning is the perfect opportunity to contact them! You can stay outside soaking up the sun but have someone to talk to so you aren’t lonely or bored. Tanning on your own can sometimes feel lonely, so you could also invite someone else to come tan with you. Having someone to talk to can make all the difference.

Take a Nap While You Tan

If you just don’t have the interest or energy to do anything else, you could always take a nap! The sun’s warmth can make it all too easy to drift away into a deep sleep. Napping can help the time go by and get you some extra rest if you have a busy schedule. Just remember that if you choose this option, try to set a timer or have a friend present who can wake you up after about forty-five minutes so you don’t get burnt!

There are tons of things to do while you tan!

In conclusion, there are lots of fun and productive things you could do while you’re tanning other than baking in the heat. Calling a friend, reading a book, or even learning about something new can help pass the time. Just remember to tan safely, following the safety tips recommended by health professionals. Most of all, don’t forget to wear your sunscreen! Stay safe and happy tanning!
