When Sonia Begonia started her blog, she was a college student attending the University of California Los Angeles, and was a part-time model. She started her blog as a way to share her experiences in the modeling industry. However, as she grew, her blog grew with her, and expanded into a place to share tips on fashion, lifestyle, and mental health.
Tell me a bit about how you got started
I just always loved fashion, I always love talking about my experiences in the industry. And as I got older, the modeling kind of faded away, but I wanted to keep that part of me alive. So I started Sonia Begonia, just for the fashion aspect, and it really grew into something more than I ever could have imagined. I talk about fashion, I talk about lifestyle, mental health, everything.
How did you grow your blog and social medias over the years?
I feel like are gaining followers, it kind of propels itself. And it happens more quickly than you think. But I run a network of bloggers in the Bay Area, which is where I’m based out of, but we all really work together to push each other to promote each other, I work with a lot of big and small companies. So in that way, also, I got my name out there, but just about being true to yourself and being authentic. And the people that you know, most aligned with you are the people that will follow you and just kind of grows from there.
What do you hope readers take away from your blog?
You know, just realities of life. I think I talk a lot about mental health and about kind of Instagram versus reality, what you see what you don’t see. Just being true to who you are, and taking life as it is. Not being afraid to you know, show your weaknesses or your flaws. As a human being
Do you have any advice for someone trying to grow their online blog presence?
My number one advice would be don’t put all your eggs in one basket. For the longest time, I was just focusing on my Instagram and then I realized it is so saturated. There’s so many people you know, that offer something similar that I do. So I branched out to Pinterest, Twitter, TikTok, definitely stay on top of that. I SEO up my blog. So that I’m ranking some of the top keywords on the first page of Google. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Really kind of spread out your business, if you’re making it as a business or you’re blogging. Kind of venture and yeah, just be everywhere, to everyone.
