Walking down the skin care aisles at Target is like walking into a candy store.
Bright colors and aesthetically pleasing bottles line the shelves, with each serum seeming more promising than the next. But there is a common dilemma many consumers face when looking for a new product to add to their skin care regimen—finding products that actually work. Since the plethora of skin care products can be overwhelming, many use products that can actually do more damage to the skin than good.
Skin care shouldn’t hurt
A big mistake many make is buying products that are harsh on the skin. No one enjoys dark fillers that speckle across the nose, but those fillers should never be ripped out of the skin with Biore facial strips or scratched out with harsh exfoliants, such as St. Ives apricot scrub that uses jagged pieces of walnut shells. Instead, choose a gentle cleanser, such as CeraVe’s Foaming Facial Cleanser. This gently lifts the dirt and oil from your face, rather than scratching or ripping at the skin.
Moisturizing is vital
A huge step to having healthy, glowing skin is making sure the skin is well moisturized. When we strip our faces from natural oils using face wash, our skin can overcompensate for the dryness by producing too much oil, causing acne or blackheads to form. On the flip side, it could also cause dry, itchy or flaky skin.
To remedy this, be sure to moisturize right when you get out of the shower. Stay away from moisturizers that have fragrance or oil that clog pores. My favorite moisturizer is Egyptian Magic All Purpose Face Cream. The ingredients are simple and almost all natural—olive oil, beeswax, honey, bee pollen, royal jelly, and bee propolis.
Retinol has been a miracle cream for many, but be sure you’re starting off at the right amount. Everyone should start at .0025% and move up from there. The Ordinary has retinol serums in different percentages available on their website or at Ulta. If retinol serums are too harsh for your skin, try the Lotus Youth Preserve Dream Face Night Cream that uses the antioxidant Super Lotus for more youthful looking skin.
Skin is fragile, so be sure to treat it with care.
