Sometimes life has a way of knocking us down, but we must remain with consistent positive attitudes to get us through the day, the week, the year, and our whole lives.
I know it’s hard; when things go bad in our lives, we tend to think the world is out to get us. We begin to question ourselves: Am I doing this right? Did they not like me? Was this my fault? Why is the world so negative?
But you must remember to take things day by day and continue to see the positive in yourself and others.
You can attain a greater happiness within YOURSELF. THERE IS STRENGTH IN YOUR CHARACTER:
Take a moment to reflect upon yourself. What kind of person are you? What is your personality like? What are your strongest characteristics? It could help to put these answers to writing. Your top characteristics are what allow in living a life of genuine bliss rather than simple pleasures.
Researchers who specialize in positive psychology have followed a list called Values in Action, which consists of 24 attributes that are valued across different cultures. In comparison to the general public, people whose top strengths are curiosity, zest, gratitude, hope, and the capacity to love and be loved, scored higher on studies of achieving life satisfaction. It was also found that the most universal traits are curiosity, fairness, love, open-mindedness, and appreciation of beauty. Thus, if you have any of these kinds of personality traits, you are one step closer to living a life of genuine bliss.
SEE THE SUN, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DAY:
It is incredibly easy to put things off until tomorrow, to stay indoors all comfy and cozy when the weather isn’t agreeing with you today. However, a mentality based in the pleasure of comfort can create habits that become tough to break. You might wind up laying in bed, not ever going outside unless it’s to work or school. Needing a “break” so you cancel outings with friends to stay and watch tv instead. Suddenly your body aches because you no longer allow yourself to have any kind of physical activity. You spend your energy resenting those on social media who seem to be living their “best life” when in fact it’s just you that hasn’t taken a break from viewing everyone’s socials.
In order to stop this cycle of toxicity try to plan a “perfect day.”
A perfect day can be defined to meet your hobbies and interests. It doesn’t even need to consist of a full day, could even be a couple of hours, as long as you seize the day to create experiences that are fulfilling. For example, I love art and creating art, so for me I like to attend events like the Los Angeles Art Walk, local museums, poetry lounges, even including taking a trip to an art supplies store for fun. It’s important to create events like these in order to reinforce positive emotions. Then when you look back, you are able to feel the satisfaction of turning a perfect day into a perfect memory.
OPTIMISM IS KEY
More often than not, we tend to overlook our accomplishments and dismiss our experiences from forming the person we have become.
It is good to sit down every once and a while and congratulate ourselves for achieving all that we have. However minor or major, every win is a win.
In this ever fast-paced life, we don’t allow ourselves time to feel the progress we have made. We continuously move on to the next thing. Sometimes, life just comes to a halt in a stage where you feel stuck and hopeless. When you begin to gather pessimistic feelings and see the glass as half empty instead of half full. This can cause you to dwell on the small intrusions instead of focusing on the wins. Remember, sometimes things happen for a reason. If Oprah wasn’t fired from the news television network she worked at, she probably would have never made the way to being one of the biggest influential people in entertainment today.
