How To Strengthen Your Entrepreneurial Mindset

strengthening your entrepreneurial mindset

Being an entrepreneur can be a very intimidating process filled with a lot of uncertainty and anxiety. Believe me, there have been many moments when I’ve felt lost and unable to execute. It is important to have the proper mindset to turn your dreams into a reality.

Gain Experience

Gaining experience can help you understand common practices and strategies you need to successfully operate your business. Even in situations dealing with incompetent coworkers, snobby customers, and demanding bosses — you can really learn a lot about the do’s and the donts in a work environment immersing yourself in one. There are many factors that come into play when it comes to the overall success of your brand. This reflects on the strategies implemented to produce the best results. Are your employees motivated? Are your customers happy? What can you do to increase your sales?

Experience in your industry of interest is also necessary in understanding exactly what it is you are selling. You get to see what customers really want and can get to know every detail about the product or service. For example, if you want to start a business in cosmetics, do you know what the best ingredients are for your products? In fashion, do you understand the seasonality in demand? Knowing the answers to industry-specific questions reflects both your credibility and as a brand and expertise as an owner.

Fuel Your Curiosity

There’s nothing more inspiring than learning about other people’s success stories. Reading can really motivate you to pursue your passion. Not a reader? That’s okay. If you find a story relevant to your goals, you’ll be sure to continue reading. What inspired me to pursue entrepreneurship was the book How to be An Overnight Success by Maria Hatzistefanis which taught me that starting a business can be easy. I learned that you don’t have to be a genius to run a successful business. It’s the effort you put into it and the mindset you have that matters. Inspiring right?

There are also a lot of resources available for you to acquire more skills and knowledge. The internet is so abundant in information that makes learning a new skill easy and affordable. If you feel like your skills are not enough to be a business owner, then build on them! I was able to learn graphic design for less than $100 on Shaw Academy. There are also free courses on LinkedIn Learning, Class Central, and Youtube. Just type “free courses” on your search engine and you’ll be surprised to find plenty of options.

Build Your Network

Picture this: one day, you decide that you’d rather stay home than attend an event with your friends only to find out you just missed out on an opportunity to have a chat with a successful business owner in your industry of interest who could really help you in the right direction.
The point is, you never really know who you’re going to meet and it’s important to get yourself out there. There are so many people who might share the same interests as you or can connect you with companies you are interested in. Build your network and be open to meeting different people because one day, you might need their expertise and guidance.

Attend seminars and career fairs because there are usually important professionals in attendance who give the best advice. Make sure to step out of your comfort zone, talk to like-minded people, and add them to your LinkedIn network to stay in touch.

Be Confident in Yourself

For myself, having self-confidence was probably the hardest part of the entire entrepreneurship learning process. Owning a business seemed like a pipe dream. You’ll always think “there’s always going to be someone better.”

Don’t worry, with a lot of practice and skill building, your confidence will flow. Make sure you’re always prepared and be knowledgeable about what you do so you can be prepared to answer any questions. As mentioned, build your experience, gain relevant skills, know your strengths and goals, and this will reflect on your ability to achieve more.

Stay Updated

Stay updated on the latest trends and information by watching the news, reading magazines, and anything that will keep you in-the-know. Doing so not only keeps you updated with what is trending, but is also a good conversation tool when you’re building relationships.

Write It Down!

The best ideas happen at the most random times, so it’s important to write it down so you don’t forget. With the privilege of our smart phones being so accessible at any time, it’s easy to keep your ideas noted for future purposes. Great ideas come when you least expect them to because they happen when certain situations in your life give you that “aha” moment

Find Motivation

It is definitely easier to find motivation when you’re surrounded by people who motivate you and who have a similar work ethic that encourages you to do the same. Spending a lot of time with determined and focused individuals can really motivate you to work harder. Family members will also encourage you and will always want what’s best for you — so in times you need support, shoot them a call!

Finally it’s important to enhance your self-awareness by understanding who you are and what it is that you want to do with your life. Once you’ve passed this step, you will find that everything else will fall into place. This can be done by trying new things, meditation activities, or enjoying time alone. Finding time for yourself can help you dig deep into your heart to find out your true purpose. This will ultimately drive your motivation.
