Holiday Spirit Every Day
It is no secret that 2020 has been the hardest year for a lot of people. In an earlier post, I talked about how people started decorating for the holidays early to introduce some positivity into our lives for longer. Now, I want to give you some tips on how to keep the holiday spirit going, since we have not experienced enough merriness this year.
One way to keep the positivity in our lives is simple: keeping our environment joyful and warm. This could look like keeping your Christmas lights lit, continuing to light candles, and playing wholesome movies. This is setting yourself up for success.
When your environment is welcoming and encouraging, you will feel invited into the space.
Another way to keep the holiday spirit going is by doing acts of kindness. The holiday time is the most controversial. For some, it is the best time of the year and for others, it is the worst. That is why it is especially important to show kindness to others during this season. We do things for others to bring joy to another person, and to experience the fulfillment of doing something good for another person. An example of this could be delivering a basket of baked goodies to a neighbor or buying an impromptu gift for a friend.
Lastly, in order to keep the holiday spirit going, one must accept that it is an attitude. We have the power to be resilient to change and choose positivity over pity. The holiday attitude favors family and cherished memories, not dwelling on old hurts and “what ifs”. The holiday attitude focuses on the present gratitudes and future hopes.
