Four Ways To Exercise During Quarantine

It’s hard enough to find the motivation to get up and go to gym on a daily basis. It’s even harder to find that motivation when there’s no gym to go to. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, gyms across the world have been closed to prevent the spread of the disease. While this may be an inconvenience, it doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to stay fit in the comfort of your own home! Finding ways to exercise to during quarantine might not be as difficult as it seems. 

Here are a few ways to stay active while also staying safe:

1. Bodyweight Exercises

Some of the most effective ways to exercise don’t require any equipment at all! The most commonly bodyweight exercises are pushups and sit-ups, but there are more that are easy to do at home. Other good drills to try are lunges, dips, squats, and planks.

2. Workout Videos

Whether it’s something online or those dusty old VHS tapes in the back of your parents’ closet, there are millions of instructional videos to guide you through a productive workout. A simple Google search will immediately reveal countless different videos for you to follow along with. You can even find ones perfectly tailored to what you’re looking for. The best part about these videos is that most of them are heavily based on the aforementioned bodyweight exercises. The videos that require equipment usually only need it for a couple of exercises and almost always provide the viewer with an alternative exercise to do in the meantime.

3. Walk!

In these socially distanced times, simply walking has become a pastime for many people. It’s one of the few ways to socialize right now while also staying safe, not to mention the great exercise it provides! Even if you are walking alone, going outside and getting some fresh air is a great way to clear your head and take a break from your busy day. Putting in headphones and listening to your music also can make the walk much more enjoyable.

4. Housework

If you don’t feel comfortable leaving your home, or don’t feel like doing a strenuous workout, you can still stay active around the house. Doing chores whether it be washing dishes, vacuuming, or just tidying up keeps you up and about for a lot of the day. You can even go outside and garden to get some fresh air.

Obviously none of these activities are required: you can do none of them or all of them!
However, all of these suggestions definitely help in living a healthier lifestyle. Both physical and mental health are extremely important, especially in stressful times as the ones we are living right now. Most importantly, do what makes you happy and allows you to live your best life!
