Acrylic nails, a lifetime commitment? There’s three options you can choose from when you go and get your nails done. Nail polish, gel polish, and acrylic. Most people would think acrylic would be the way to go. Highly durable, long lasting, and can give you that extra length your regular nails could never grow to. It sounds great but what people don’t always realize is that acrylic nails take a lot more care than other nail polishes require.
I love doing my nails but nail polish is very different from gel or even acrylic. People don’t realize that time, effort, and care needs to go into their nails, even more so with acrylic ones.
In theory they sound great but what people don’t realize is how much maintenance goes into them. Nails have a healing process too, but most people don’t let them rest, or take care of them.
Natural nails need to be filed down until the surface is rough so the acrylic can stick to it. To keep them looking good, frequent touch ups are also a must. This not only becomes something of a bi-weekly or monthly expense but can really leave your nails thin, brittle, and dry. Proper care and expert nail technicians can help prevent your nails from going down that path. That doesn’t exclude you from giving them proper care though.
Breaking your nails or getting an infection is the last thing anyone wants. That’s not fun for anyone. The best way to take care of your nails is to get bi-weekly fill ins. This’ll help prevent water or anything else from getting in under the acrylic. Stuff getting under the acrylic can cause the nails to loosen and increase the risk of infection.
This isn’t to say that this will happen to you. When people get acrylics though they usually fail to realize how different they are from regular nail polish and manicures. Acrylic nails are beautiful but can be a pain if you aren’t careful, and beauty should never come at the cost of comfort.
